I remember in the AJ-Wlad fight, hue was getting easily outboxed, besides the KD rounds

Do you feel AJ is as limited as Wilder, skill-wise?

would highly skilled grandad Ortiz clearly outbox AJ like he did wilder?

AJ is very poised and calm.

He adjusts well in the ring.

An elite boxer will outbox him at times.

AJ vs Povetkin is a great example of the good and bad in AJ in one fight. He started off trying to box at range but was eating some arcing hooks from Pov (who was excellent in that fight btw) and some whistled by his chin.

AJ then changed tack and seemingly gave up height and reach but took away the swings from Pov and he even changed the trajectory of his own punches because he wasn’t landing much himself first 4 rounds. The punch that basically ended the fight though AJ knocked him down twice was about chest height really. Nearly took Povs chin off.

I wouldn’t say AJ is limited. He definitely thinks a lot in there.

He’d be fascinating in with Fury.

AJ would beat Ortiz up imo. Put it on him bell to bell.

Joshua does have holes in his game for sure, he is more of a fighter than a boxer although his skill is improving, it's not surprising he couldnt box that well with klitschko after 16 fights, although he got his tactics wrong as well in that fight (still won though)

Comparing him to wilder is ridiculous though, Joshua has better defence, better counterpunching, better accuracy, better shot selection and so on and so forth

Wilder is literally just an athletic tall guy with a massive punch

AJ isn't as limited as Wilder. He's shown more desire & ability with improving. Although in his last few fights I haven't noticed as much improvement. But yea AJ isn't a guy I'm expecting to win too many more fights before catching an L.

That said just because AJ is more skilled & I'd favor him over Wilder I think Wilder's power & no f#cks given style make him a live dog vs AJ.

Don't accept that either Wilder or AJ lack skills.

AJ's longer fights: outboxed Breazeale, Whyte, Takam & Parker was well head on points at all times in those fights. Somehow he was well ahead vs Povetkin, only close points was Wlad - a very high standard fighter. The rest of AJ'ss fights are too short to make anything out of them.

Joshua also won a Olympic Gold without any KOs, head guards and heavy gloves to nullify his power. Some generous judging along the way, particularly in one fight, but he still showed high skill & speed in those fights.

Wilder was handily ahead at all times on points vs Stiverne I, Arreola, Molina & Duphaus, close but still ahead (some controversy) Ortiz, Washington and Szpilka. Struggled with Fury skill wise but so have many others. Rest of his fights are short though his demolition of Firtha was very impressive - watch his jab in that fight, Wilder did a better job with Firtha than either Fury or Povetkin.

Wilder is not just a KO punch, he is big 3 for more than just power, but probably Joshua has slightly better skills.

Nope, AJ is technically superior to Wilder. His fundamentals are actually decent, he's just stiff in his movements which gives the impression that he lacking skill wise.

i think so. his skills are good until someone lands a good shot. then he reverts right away, and thats why wilder matches up well.

AJ is a far more skilled boxer than Wilder who throws much shorter correct punches with accuracy. Wilder has a good straight right and left jab mixed in with an awful lot of very wide sloppy punches that can be avoided and countered. AJ might lose a round or two to Ortiz but he would win the fight by KO.
