As a general rule those who claim him lineal are in some way associated with him (or wilder in the build up to that fight) - ptimarily for marketing reasons. There are a lot of wilder fans on here who think the same.

Some will consider it him anyway but a lot , including myself , dont give him credit anymore because in my opinion he forfeited when he retired/didn’t fight for multiple years/failed a drug test.

For clarity though I don’t consider Joshua the lineal either. I will consider the winner of Joshua and Wilder lineal.

Things may be that way where you live, but where I live, every newspaper, website and TV station refers to Fury as being lineal champion. You have very good points for why he maybe shouldn't be considered lineal champion, but for whatever reason, he's pretty much universally referred to as lineal champion whenever you read or hear about him in America.

I think its possible, Fury is so boring in the ring that he needs somebody like a 50 year old Briggs to make the fight entertaining. That fight would get alot of attention and viewers unlike Fury vs the likes of Pulev or other ESPN fighters.
