I'm having an argument with my friend over joshua vs miller

He says that joshua has faster hand speed than miller.

I always thought that hand speed was the time it took from resting position to connect.

In which case Miller clearly has faster hand speed.

I told him miller had faster hand speed and he laughed at me and told me I was blind.

Who's right and what should I say to him?

Miller has good hand speed for a fat man. Neither guy is particularly fast or slow.

Hand speed is not just one measurement. There's a number of things involved.
    -speed to target.
-speed to retract the hand back to guard.
-the time it takes to transition into the next punch (in a combination).
-time it takes to counter punch.

Hand speed means a lot of things. Manny is known for speed. His punches aren't all that fast, but his COMBINATIONS are. Khan has some of the fastest, raw hand speed. Mayweather had some of the quickest counter punching speed.

Miller and AJ aren't that far apart in speed that you can really make a big argument for one or the other. Miller might be slightly faster but, as is the case in Loma, you'll naturally punch faster if you're not putting a lot of power on the punches.
