Comments Thread For: Ugas: Nothing Bigger Than World Title Fight, Not Even The Olympics

For all of his amateur accolades, Yordenis Ugas still insists there's nothing in his career that can compare to the thought of becoming a world champion in the pro ranks. The 32-year old welterweight-who represented Cuba in the 2008 Olympics and was part of the national team before defecting a year later-is now within one win from realizing that dream, as his first career title fight comes March 9 versus welterweight title claimant.

I have to disagree. With the boxing landscape these days, the olympics is a bigger achievement than most of these “world titles”.

Olympics seems to propel fighters more than World titles these days. Anthony Joshua from the get go had a massive following, and every promoter was wanting to sign him.

Scarcity seems to up the value of titles. The Olympics is every 4 years, and the Olympics in general behind the world cup 'Or very closely matched' is the biggest sporting event on the planet. During the 90's the world titles where still pretty heavy, but for some reason they have lost a lot of prestige.

Tell that to lomo fanboys. They think 2 gold medals makes up for the fact he didn't turn pro until 25 and was content in beating up teenagers as a grown man.

Ugas can win this, i think Porter has hit his ceiling!

We’ve seen the best of Porter and it’s a mix bag but have we seen the best of Ugas!?

I’m going with the underdog, Ugas by close decision !

I'm rooting for Ugas too, because I feel that Porter ducked Spence Jr. to get this fight! Of course he'll blame the WBC! Plus Porter is already talking about a rematch with Thurman, and I don't want that! WAR UGAS!

We need new blood @ 147! "Boots" Ennis, where you at? Stanionis, Let's Go! Mo Hooker! MAN UP! Move up and fight Crawford! You're 5'11"! There's money to be made! Let's Get It!
