We have a strong desire to see ourselves do well against others that don't represent the Mexican nation.

We have a strong nationalistic identity. We don't care what skin color you are. You can look like Canelo, or Munguia or even be foreign born but have love for the flag and we'll consider you one of our own.

But as Canelo implies, he would rather work to destroy a foreigner, than one of his own.

Once in a while however, there is a civil war of sorts and division will be created. Not common. Like Canelo did against Chavez Jr or as you mentioned with Barrera vs Morales.

Cuban fighters say it all the time.

These clowns want to hate on Canelo for not wanting to fight Munguia right now but if he did fight him they’d say he’s cherry picking an easy win

            Beat me to it.

I was gonna mention how Cubans will almost never fight each other in pros, and I get why. Cubans got nobody in boxing but each other. They also have the hardest journey to box professionally.

Is there any record of any Mexican saying he doesn't want to fight Mexicans before this? It just seems weird. He sounds like a politician now. Or his PR guy said "Mexicans will love you more if you say this". It's a sport. The best should want to fight the best, regardless of nationality. Imagine a Mexican runner saying he would hate to race another Mexican runner. It's a sport. I don't get it.
