Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Fans Deserve The Canelo vs. Golovkin Trilogy Fight

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar de la Hoya, who promotes WBA, WBC middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez, is absolutely on board with finalizing a trilogy fight with Gennady Golovkin in the immediate future. Canelo is back in the ring on May 4th, when he collides with IBF champion Daniel Jacobs in a high stakes unification at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

I'm not all that interested in a 3rd fight. That's just me though.

GGG is nearly 40 now everyone wants to fight him, it's unbelievable how this sport works. Honestly I don't know if even want to see this version of GGG fight anymore, he's clearly lost a step over the last 2 years and Canelo is 28. Keen for Canelo to take on Jacobs, Andrade, Saunders etc.

It would be good monetary wise for GGG but they won’t allow him to get a decision no matter what over Canelo unless he gets a miracle KO. I still feel it should be 1 win a piece right now & GGG shouldn’t be 0-1-1 against him.

I'm with you on this. The only way the fight would end differently is if GGG KO's Canelo. He can't win a decision.

Like it or not its still the biggest fight to make at 160 so sure lets line up the stage for a 3rd go.

Both fights were close & while not classics weren't boring either so why not.

Because DLH knows a 3rd fight will be super easy for Nelo. GGG is no longer the Boogey Man.

                  Thats not true.

Of the 5 reasonable scorecards in the 2 fights 2 had it 6-6, 2 had it 7-5 Canelo & 1 had it 7-5 GGG. So combined the non-******ed or non-corrupt judges got it scored 31-29 Canelo.

These guys are airtight close to each other & I think both outcomes were fair, split draw + majority decision for Canelo. I've leaned GGG's way (13-11 in their 24 rounds on my scorecard), but their were many close rounds that coulda went either way.

We are yet to see how capable a fighter GGG even is at this stage. Let's face it, that boy got lit up like a Christmas tree TWICE in a row by Canelo and we know his mental state is quite bad (even Arum said his attitude was bad).

I respect GGG for what he is - a B level fighter who cherrypicks bums and knocks them out usually, but I'm not so sure he can take another sustained beating from a young Mexican stud like Canelo. Also, I think Abel forgot to tell him that Mexican style doesn't mean get punched in the face a lot, you need to throw punches back.
