Don't know much history on him, but he was the champ back in his day. Were there any fighters that he ducked?

Langford? And if my history knowledge serves me right wasn’t that more of a promoter thing about not wanting two blacks to be fighting for the title? Or am I wrong and that was Louis? You’d have better luck posting this in the history forum. Most people won’t even know who Johnson was. To those who don’t I highly recommend the PBS documentary “Unforgivable Blackness”. -

He fought Langford once and got a w I believe but despite numerous attempts made by Langford for a rematch, Johnson was never interested. Of course, he did fight him once and lots of people avoided Langford altogether.Comment

Its boxing. You can't fight everyone so anyone has someone or maybe many they didn't fight. Its just how things work in boxing. Lotsa fans get waaaaay too weird about this "ducking" sh^t.Comment

I think he tried to freeze out Langford, and if my history was right he didn’t want to fight a lot of black fighters because they didn’t bring him as much money as their white counterpart.Comment

Langford. But Johnson was known for breaking down the colour barrier and then putting it back to by refusing to fight black fighters.Comment

I heard he ducked Ortiz , was born way before on purpose he was so afraid. Didn't even want to be near the same era !
