For Canelo to give up 11 fights (basically 4 years of work), you'd be your bottom dollar that he'd have most if not all of that money locked up; regardless of how he fights, Canelo was scooped up as a means to drive folks to get DAZN.
Floyd signed with Showtime/CBS for his deal, because he was a star that could fight his ass off, but also because signing Floyd elevated Showtime as a broadcaster, driving actual business.
Eleider Alvarez isn't Floyd or Canelo, but to take the Kovalev offer, knock him out, and only owe Kovalev an option before going free, signing a deal that was trumpeted up as being this monster deal, yet was actually a 6-fight, $1.5m deal with escalators to $1m per fight for holding a title is a pretty raw deal.
Especially seeing that he was already on more than that when fighting under Stevenson in Montreal.
It's almost like when Colin Kaepernick signed that 7-year, $126m deal, only for the reality to be that the deal was really a 1 year, $13m contract, with 6 option years (and only half of the deal insured against career-ending injury).
