Honestly, I think Tyson might have the least to lose and be the man the public would forgive most often.
If Wilder loses I'm not so sure his fanbase will stick with him. We do talk about **** like 50-0, busting Marciano's record a new ass. We got high standards for our champion.
Joshua's fans don't even give a **** if his whole career centers around bums and second tier no-hopers let alone a loss to a prime champ.
I think it's Wilder who has the least supportive fans for a tons of reasons.
Reckon that's why our champions are so damn good. We keep them hungry by demanding they raise bars set by historical giants.
I mean damn, poor kid. Deontay comes from the Dixie south man. That's a ****ing high bar alone that one. I'd say the highest in all of HW boxing. Who else, what region on earth, can claim an ATG list that trumps the HW champions from Dixie?
The South is where Jack Johnson came from. Deontay was born in GOAT Joe ****in' Louis' home state FFS. Patterson's from Carolina. Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Shavers, Ellis, and Terrell...the South could rightly claim responsibility for the Golden Era of Heavyweights. If that wasn't enough, last great champion from the south happens to be Evander.
So right off the bat you have a home team who is used to seeing literally the best. Those ain't easy folks to impress. Holyfield's fans are not really that interested in seeing a fighting form like Wilder's. Ali's fans ain't going to be about Wilder's wait and bait game straight away because it'll look like he does a bad job at it when compared to Ali. Those dudes are just real hard to be compared to and it's natural for folks to compare the new to the old.
And we all know what else those southern men got in common with Deontay. They're all black men from Dixie. ****ing hell right? So right off the racists are against him.
Finally, Deontay did himself no favors by being a puncher. Puncher fans ain't a dime a dozen but they pretty much rank the same guys just in different order. He compares himself to Marciano and talks about the 50-0 now because we've done been talking about his potential to exceed 49-0 with more than 43KOs to back it up since like 2012. I can't speak for all the Marciano fans when I say this, but, it's been a long as **** time since I seen Rocky in a fighter. I see Rocky in Deontay and that's both a blessing and a curse. If he's to match up to Marciano he can't take an L no matter how good the man who beat him is or how hard he bounces back. Lennox Lewis is ****ing great, but, he ain't got Marciano's record.
I believe Wilder can do it but that also means if Wilder doesn't do it I am more disappointed in him than I would most fighters whose careers I don't compare to the greatest punchers and greatest ATGs of all time. I'd still be a fan but the dream of breaking Marciano's record would be dead again.
Hell, you can't tell me the draw with Tyson didn't hurt Wilder more than Tyson man. Everyone claims Tyson won that and plenty are even already saying they're fine with Tyson never fighting Wilder again. They don't care that their guy almost got knocked out, like at all. I care, a lot, that Wilder failed to secure that W in dominant fashion.
Rocky Marciano knows nothing of draws. If Wilder's going to break his record that certainly ain't the way. Josh and Tyson ain't even got the balls to try so they're held to a lower standard.
So in the end Wilder's got racists who will cheer the moment anything bad happened to him and on the home from he is constantly compared to literally the greatest HWs to have ever lived.
