Kevin Iole says Teofimo Lopez vs Richard Commey targeted for late summer?

WBA-WBO lightweight champion Vasiliy Lomachenko will defend his titles on April 12 against Ant Crolla at Staples Center in Los Angeles in a bout streamed live on ESPN+. On Tuesday, Top Rank president Todd duBoef told Yahoo Sports that WBA-WBO lightweight champion Vasiliy Lomachenko will make his mandatory defense against Ant Crolla on April 12 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

There was some discussion about putting 21-year-old wunderkind Teofimo Lopez in against Lomachenko on April 12. But Lomachenko and his father/trainer, Anatoly, prefer Lopez to have a title before they met. Lopez will fight an opponent to be named on April 20 underneath Crawford-Khan.

If he is successful, he’ll likely face IBF champion Richard Commey later in the summer, with a goal of a fight with Lomachenko late in the year.
He just drops this bomb at the end of his article that flies in the face of everything that has been reported about Commey signing to fight Loma, that fight still be "very likely" for later this year now that Commey got injured, etc, without even acknowledging that fact or explaining the change in any way. Why is it boxing always gets stuck with the most biased commentators, and the most unhelpful reporters?

Edit: this boxingscene article has a quote from Carl Moretti that directly contradicts Kevin Iole's yahoo article. https://www.boxingscene.com/lomachen...se-bid--136414. Anyone got anything lol?

“Crolla at Staples on April 12… then hopefully Commey in late summer to further unify the (lightweight) titles,” notes Moretti.

Commey owes Top Rank a fight. DiBella signed a deal which got him under Kovalev-Alvarez. I’d be surprised if it doesn’t stay Lomachenko to be honest. Lopez-Commey would be cool with the winner meeting Loma at the end of the year.

That sounds much more likely. I don't know why Commey would want to fight Lopez over Lomachenko when Loma brings the money and the belts.

Yeah, I’d give Lopez-Commey almost no chance of happening. At this point I’d favor Commey (over Lopez) which would be bad for Top Rank seen as though they have a contract for Commeys next fight and no further ones.

Maybe see if they can get Lopez close to Campbell for when Mikey drops the WBC?

I agree. Throw this loud mouthed bragger to the wolves. I doubt he beats Commey but if he does he has earned the Loma fight.
