Is Jeff Horn a huge draw for his actual talent level?

That was no robbery. And Crawford beat him easily because he's a lot better than Pacquiao at this point.Comment

Horn is a huge draw for his talent level, yes.
He basically won the lottery. He squeaked out a win over one of the most notable talents in the history of boxing. He did this by fighting out of his skin, and by the fact that Pac is past his prime, wasn't focused on boxing, and didn't take the fight itself at all seriously. Plus the ref let Horn fight his roughhouse style.
This catapulted him into boxing notoriety well above his actual ability. He's a very good fighter, but realistically not top 5 of his division. He's also tough and gutsy. That is usually good enough to get a fighter into consideration for a title eliminator etc.
People who talk about 'home country robberies' have already had it explained to them - there were four officials on the night (ref and three judges) and five more officials who did the WBO review. Nine officials, and not a single one of them was Australian.
If you see someone refering to that fight and claiming it was home cooking... you can write that person off as either someone who doesn't know anything at all about boxing, or someone who is simply a lying cunt who is incapable of contributing meaningfully to this forum due to their mental deficiencies and shitty character.Comment

Are you talking about Andre Ward?Horn is a very dirty fighter when the ref lets him get away with illegal tactics. I doubt he deserved to win any rounds in the Pacquiao fight and he won no rounds against Crawford. He has very little boxing skills. He is slow and never heard of a combination. He throws one or two punches to get him close enough to grab his opponent and hold him so he can actually hit him. He is a hold and hit mauling boxer who I think is horrible to watch. Lot's of mediocre fighters like Horn get title shots these days. If he is fighting anybody good and the fight is not in Australia he will lose.Comment

Australians are usually quite loyal to their own, even if everything they are loyal to is mediocore. I don't think Horn won against Pac but I think me made that fight entertaining. He brought the violence and turned it into a dirty dog fight. I think in that respect he deserved the win, but going by boxing rules - as it is a boxing match - then I'd say Pac won, easy.Comment

Past experience by several world class Australian boxers shows that fighting out of their country is a significant disadvantage, plus the talent pool is small so getting realistic opposition at home is difficult as is finding a trainer as good as say Robert Garcia. Getting noticed by the world is tougher and usually involves beating a world name boxer, like Horn did.
We won't see how good or not Horn is until he fights quality opposition at 154 but that is proving difficult to arrange, hence the middleweight talk. He's obviously good enough to make potentials wary but not a big enough name for them to take the risk, bit of a catch 22. I just hope that he is not forced to fight middleweight.Comment
