Yes. It worked for some boxers. He should have done the same thing. Fight bums, it seems the way forward in boxing.

Usyk would be huge doe. I mean hyuuuge.
Compared to Wilder going back to making $1 mil per fight
        against Arreola level opponents.

It's quite funny.... He took the risks early and it paid of. You are also right that it could have back fired but that's why many seem him as the #1 HW in the world.
At 21 fights, hez already a unified champ, it's an amazing achievement and I admire him for that.

Guys like miller have fought bums through his way up to a title shot. Hez such a clever man, without doing much.

Just look at the flak he gets now for taking risks early! And it’s not like he is currently fighting bum. And he still gets criticised for fighting someone like Miller who is undefeated.

Many guys here would have preferred Ortiz, I don't have any problems with that match. I believe Ortiz should put himself in that position again to command another title fight.
Miller alone with his funny jibes can command 5/10k fans to MSG, Ortiz can barely command 2k fans to come watch him.

He doesn't have what the casuals want to attract them on seat on fight night. Promoters are not ******.

Miller firing a jab to AJ on him taking the mum out, many casuals want to see how AJ will react, that alone can attract 1/2k fans to this fight.

A Whyte rematch would be a big fight in the UK.

The Wilder/Fury winner would be a huge fight for Joshua.

Joshua will have mandatories due and he's a big enough star that he'll still make 20-30 million even in a mandatory.

As for impressing fans, as long as his fans believe he did all he could to make a bigger fight, they'll still support him regardless of the opponent. That's why the propaganda from Hearn is so critical to keeping the cash cow alive.

Usyk is also another opponent Hearn could turn into a big fight in the UK.

Only issue Joshua really runs into is that if he can't get the Wilder/Fury winner, there's nobody for him to fight that the US will care about, but Joshua can make plenty of money in the UK even if the US doesn't care.

So the Queen is going to order everyone buys AJ's PPV is she?
