Kovalev isn't ducking anybody. Kovalev also went 12 against Hopkins, but totally outboxed him, just like he did against Alvarez in the rematch. Kovalev is still a top guy, possibly the current best at 175, with Bivol and Gvozdyk right up there as well. Might be a tossup between these three.

Still need to see more of Smith to give him any shot at Kov.

He's not the same. He's way better. That was the first time I saw Kovalev in shape since Pascal II.

But why though? Smith is 168 champ. Kovalev is 175 champ. Rather see Kovalev unify at 175, and the guy who says he can actually make 168, Bivol, fight Smith at 168, where it means more. Or, Kovalev and Bivol should just fight.

Yeah same, Kovalev isnt the fighter he once was otherwise he would likely KO Smith. These days the fight would be a lot closer.

Smith is the younger fresher fighter who is also taller and has a reach advantage so I dont think it would be as 1-sided as some people believe.

Smith destroyed him in 1. Canelo took 3. I think Smith hits harder.

Yes I agree Smith hits harder than Canelo but not as hard as Eleider Alvarez who last fought Kov

There's so much ducking going on between the champions and the contenders (in nearly every notable weight class) I say f--- it I'll take what I can get. I'm not opposed to this matchup.
