Comments Thread For: Omar Figueroa-John Molina: Meat and Potatoes

By Cliff Rold - It won't be the main event. It looks like the reason to tune in. This Saturday night, the main event on Fox (8 PM EST) will feature WBA featherweight titlist Leo Santa Cruz (35-1-1, 19 KO) defending against late replacement Rafael Rivera (26-2-2, 17 KO). Rivera enters off a win after consecutive losses...

Damn - went under my radar somehow, probably cos Boxrec didn't have it on their front page schedule. I would probably have thrown up a pick em for this one had I known...

Figueroa's rightly a fairly hot favourite but even at 36 damn years old I wouldn't want to write Molina off and it's not like Figueroa has a resume dripping with elite talent. The protracted absences of both also add an extra element of unpredictability.

Whatever happens should be a damn war as long as it lasts.

"The Texas native would be attractive for any of the three welterweight titlists under the PBC banner (Thurman, Shawn Porter, and Errol Spence). Danny Garcia and Manny Pacquiao would also intrigue."

Is this fight @ 140 or 147? I would think Omar would be much more effective @ 140! I would rather to see Omar fight Prograis, Relikh, Baranchyk, and Barrios than Thurman, Porter, Spence, or Pacquiao!

          140 apparently.

Former 135-pound world champion Omar Figueroa Jr. eyes a knockout within the first four rounds of his 140-pound clash with John Molina on February 16 on FOX (8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT) at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles near Molina’s home of Covina, California.

and yeah.. I think he's probably undersized at 147. Only guys he's fought above 140 have been Guerrero and DeMarco neither of whom belonged above SLW anyway.

              Prograis-Relikh, Tete-Donaire planned for April 27th

              February 13, 2019:

While Naoya Inoue, Emmanuel Rodriguez, Josh Taylor, and Ivan Baranchyk gear up for a May 18th Glasgow card that may or may not exist, their opponents may be decided on April 27th, according to Donaire promoter Richard Schaefer of Ringstar Sports.

The Ring’s Mike Coppinger mentioned Tete-Donaire happening in L.A. two weeks ago, though its expected co-feature got shunted to Glasgow.

Prograis (23-0, 19 KO) had been intent on staging his semifinal bout in his native New Orleans, but the 27th conflicts with JazzFes and is apparently the earliest date Relikh (23-2, 19 KO) is willing to fight. “Rougarou” has also expressed dissatisfaction with the lengthy delay between the quarterfinals and the semis, so I’d take a “wait-and-see” approach to this one.

Santa Cruz seemed promising at one point but it's clear he refuses to chase any type of meaningful legacy. This year looked promising last year but now that it's 2019 it's just mismatch after mismatch.
