Comments Thread For: Daniel Dubois: I'm Not That Far Behind The Best at Heavyweight

DANIEL DUBOIS DOES not view the prospect of himself mixing with the elite of the heavyweight division as a long-term ambition. The 21-year-old London based powerhouse is planning to climb a good few rungs of the heavyweight ladder over the course of 2019 and put the big three - Messrs Fury, Wilder and Joshua - on notice that the emerging force is quickly playing catch-up.

There's no rush his only 21. Joshua,Wilder has a few people to fight so he should just build and then the time will be right. His next fight should be against domestic rival Gorman to get that out of the way then maybe against a Chazz Witherspoon in the States so he can build his reputation there as well.

Good prospect but still beaten nobody and still looked very raw against Kevin Johnson, despite clearly winning. I know Johnson is very experienced in surviving but AJ got him out of there as a prospect.

I think Dubois is a long way off the top fighters right now. Fury especially would clown him.

Should take his time but make sure to increase quality of opposition. Plenty of levels between where he is and the top, and he has the time to graduate from each of them properly.

He's right though. I've mentioned him on here several times (yesterday in fact).
I disagree that the current top guy, Joshua, is far behind the top guys of the past. There is a thing in psychology is talked about how everything 'yesteryear' is perceptually better than today's version. It's not necessarily true, and Joshua, Whyte and maybe one or two others would give a perfectly good account of themselves in the same pond 20 years ago. Dubois is the best young prospect in the world (at HW). Better than Joyce and significantly better than Gorman.

I think him challenging any of the top guys is still a couple of years off at least, but it's easy to see his pathway there. The guy he's fighting next is a decent step up, and if he can see to Gorman shortly after that he should be able to maintain a nice upwards trajectory. He just needs to make sure that his training includes the complete package of the necessary skills and knowledge so that he'll be ready when he finally arrives at the summit.
