Comments Thread For: Abner Mares Will Not Rush Ring Return, Expects To Fight Again

Abner Mares is confident that he will be able to continue his career after the surgery he had on his right eye on Wednesday of last week, an he's just waiting for the recovery to play out in order to evaluate if he can return to the ring in this year or next. The three-time world champion will once again visit specialist Steven Stein Schreiber on Wednesday to see how the recovery will span after the operation, and from there he will have more information of how long he should wait, but also makes it clear that he will not rush his return at this point in his career.

Abner’s not ******. The new super juice in the Garcia camp only got Lopez a sustained beating. It’s hidden ok, but the fighters pays the end cost. Abner has tasted being stopped once with Johnny Gonzales. He has a family.

Two detached retinas, has suffered those in both eyes now... Should retire. Hopefully wont continue for too long and hopefully he has gotten enough money in his career to retire. Has had some entertaining bouts for sure, the first Leo Santa Cruz fight was crazy

Dude needs to stop. Retire and enjoy the fact that you had a decent career. It's quite obvious Mares is not at the stop level anymore and in all likelihood would have been stopped by Davis..

In most recent years boxers have been retiring at or around the age he is now 33.
