Comments Thread For: Eleider Alvarez: No Excuses, Kovalev Proved He Wanted To Win

Sergey Kovalev regained his WBO light-heavyweight title with a dominant win over Eleider Alvarez in Texas on Saturday. Kovalev (33-3-1) was too good for Alvarez in a rematch of their fight from August, when the Colombian claimed the title. He feared puncher was up on the scorecards when Alvarez knocked him down three times for a knockout win to capture the WBO title.

he should have given the "I over trained excuse" so kovalev can have a taste of his own medicine of devaluing someone's hardwork..but he's a class act

Look at the record of Alvarez. Majority decisions over Chilemba and Pascal. He beat a Bute who had lost 4 of his previous 6. He was being ducked apparently by Stevenson but is he that good? Kovalev brought in the right team and exposed Alvarez. Let's see if Alvarez can regroup and get back in to contention. At his age he better stay active.

Respect to Alvarez for not making excuses because that is all fighters and fans do in this ERA is MAKE EXCUSES!

That being said, Alvarez game plan was SH#T! I guess he waited for Kovalev to gas and even when Kovalev gassed and slowed down he still didn't jump on him more. Good thing Alvarez signed that contract with ESPN/Top Rank

Credit to Kovalev for fighting a great fight. You can tell he was tired but he did a good job of keeping the fight on the outside and not letting Alvarez get set. Kovalev proved alot of doubters/haters wrong.
