I've been hating on Anthony Yarde a couple of years now, for facing soft competition while talking big. I'm not the only one, he's turned a lot of the fanbase off. I was a fan in the beginning when he looked monsterous, but he just never progressed at the pace people expected.
His next opponent, Mehdi Amar, should finally give us answers to some of the questions that have never been answered. Theoretically Amar should take Yarde into the later rounds at least. Fella went the distance with Gvozdyk less than a year ago, and Yarde ain't got nowhere near that level of boxing ability. He'll be telegraphing everything all night, only danger is if Amar isn't a mover and Yarde is able to tee off in close, because his body attacks are brutal if an opponent stands still with a high guard.
But yea, finally we seeing Yarde fighting someone who although he doesn't have one single decent win on his record, he at least has shown durability at World and European levels. If Yarde can dictate the pace and bludgeon this man into a quick KO/TKO, I think that would finally go a little tiny bit of the way towards justifying all his haughty talk. If he labours with this fella or looks terrible while getting a house decision though, it will just be a case of another hypejob being exposed.
At least a Yarde fight may be a bit interesting for a change, and not a totally foregone conclusion.
If I was nitpicking:
So in conclusion: I am not expecting some great, explosive performance from Amar. I'm fully expecting him to lose conclusively. Would just be nice to see Yarde have to work for his victory and not just have it his own way. They are moving Anthony at a snail's pace, but at least finally he's fighting someone who has took punishment off a good fighter before and not just fallen on the floor. That is progress, right?

If I was nitpicking:
- Amar's best win is a SD against Hugo Kasperski, 21-4-1 (16 KO)
- All his other wins against journeymen/fighters with losing records
- Spent his early career at SMW so gonna be small
- Yarde is massive for the weight and gonna dwarf Amar
- Amar has 37% KO ratio, all against absolute palookas on the continent
- Amar has had just under 1 months' notice
- Amar is in his late 30s, as have been a lot of Yarde's opponents
