Comments Thread For: Is This Version of Keith Thurman as Good as The Previous One?

By Michael Rosenthal - One has to feel for Keith Thurman. The 30-year-old WBA welterweight titleholder, speaking the day before he fought Josesito Lopez this past Saturday in Brooklyn, bemoaned the fact that he lost two of his peak years to injuries before expressing optimism about the future. But after his shaky performance against Lopez, it's understandable to ask whether he'll ever be the fighter he was only a few years ago...

Some fighters can come back after a long lay off and pick up where they left off, and others need time to rediscover their form.

Even in Football (soccer) we see this a lot. Where some players come back after a long lay off and start scoring goals and giving defenders nighmares, and others take a month or two to get back to top form.

Athletes bodies are different. This was a good fight for Thurman. I reckon another tune up against a similar level of opponent in 3/4 months will do him a world of good. After that he'll be ready to take on the best 147 elbers.

Not saying he'll win, in fact, I think Spence and Crawford beat him up, KD him, and KO him (before and after the lay off), but he'll be back at his best I think.

One thing I give Thurman credit for is that the guy has legs. Damn he never stops moving those legs even when hurt his calves must be fit as hell to keep bouncing around the ring from the first to the last round.

I’d say Thurman earned this fight with the PACman at this juncture of his career PAC also deserves this fight to unify at this stage rather than fighting Horn & the likes.

Thurman needs to let his hands go again. His 3 punch combination haymakers is what’s needed again. He needs another fight to do exactly that should he be ready for Pacquiao scoring or worse, a way to fend off Spence and rack up points

After the long absence in the ring, two or three fights will bring him back to his previous level.

He still won the fight. The expectations were for him to do what Berto did and get the stoppage. He couldn’t do it off a lay-off. Pacman beats him because even at 40 pacman is an ass kicker and will kick Thurman’s tentative ass

The crazy thing is if Thurman looked spectacular against Lopez, not a single Pacquiao fan would be calling for the Thurman fight.

Let me be clear, I don't think Pacquiao should be going against the top, younger WW's at this point in his clear. However, Thurman look vulnerable and that's why Pacquiao fans want this fight.

Thurman's performance might just have landed him his best payday ever! I think he'll be much better next time out! I hope Pacquiao accepts the challenge!

If the Mayweather rematch doesn’t happen, that would be Pac’s best option before he goes against the Spence/Garcia winner if he plans to stick around. If he gets the Mayweather rematch, then he could retire win or lose.
