      Often times a fighter changes trainers after a loss or bad performance because their who would let them accept that they're not as good as the thought they were. So it's easier to blame the trainer. That's why someone like khan changes trainers all the time. Seems to be a similar scenario with kovalev.

            cotto was an odd case. He got rid of his uncle after they had a falling out. He foolishly picked a friend to train him who was a novice and got washed by pac. At that point he did the right thing by hiring steward. Not sure why he got rid of him after 2 decent wins. Then yeah, he hired Diaz and got rid of him after the trout loss which he also blamed on the trainer/high alititiude camp.
