Comments Thread For: Mares Injured, Withdraws From Davis Fight; Substitute Sought

Gervonta Davis will face someone other than Abner Mares in Davis' first fight in 9 months. Multiple sources have confirmed to BoxingScene.com that Mares has withdrawn from their 12-round, 130-pound title fight due to an undisclosed injury sustained during training camp recently. Mares, 33, was supposed to challenge Davis, 24, for the unbeaten Baltimore southpaw's WBA "super" world super featherweight title February 9 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

Good. Let's get someone Davis' size in there instead of a undersized Mares.

PBC (Protecting Boxing Cowards) should quickly call Loma to see if Loma ducks this fight

They should offer to fight Lomachenko for his April date.

That's a great idea and both would have plenty of time to prepare for one another's style.

Yeah because Loma is going to drop down to 130 and fight on a PBC card.

Good fight, Shafikov always brings it... Improvement from undersized Mares imo.
everyone here in LA would ask for refunds. Mares sold the tickets not Tank. They should just postpone till mares is recovered. The co feature fights are weak af too.

He got injured this close to the fight? Or a while back and they wanted to keep ticket sales going well for a bit longer? Can't expect much at this notice, guessing they go with Jhonny Gonzalez or another Mexican fans have heard of. Maybe they'll call Salido if he's not 200lbs by now.
