Comments Thread For: Thurman: I Could've Been 1 Punch Away From Knockdown Or KO

NEW YORK Keith Thurman knows just how close he came Saturday night to having the career he worked his whole life to build come crashing down around him. The thoughtful Thurman admitted after his majority-decision victory over Josesito Lopez that he was one punishing punch away from getting knocked down during the seventh round or, worse yet, knocked out. A resourceful, tough Thurman withstood Lopez's onslaught once Lopez drilled him with a straight right hand when there was plenty of time to go in that stunning seventh round.

There's no other boxer that keeps it 100 like thurman. He's able to judge himself from a third person perspective. No other boxer is able to self critisize themself in a truthful matter as thurman is.

I really really like Thurman honesty. He doesn’t sugarcoat it. It’s a breath of fresh air. He said he wasn’t ready for Spence and when he is he would take the fight. I respect that. Here again he is speaking the truth, other would disguise it and make it look like they weren’t hurt for whatever egotistical reasons.

The rust was very apparent. He needs another tuneup b4 fighting PAC.

The layoff hurt Thurman badly. I don't understand why he took off 2 years in his prime when he probably could he have returned in a year. Thurman's power looks to be limited and he might even be a bit chiney. No way he beats Spence without clipping him

Ring rust was abundantly apparent, one thing I noticed that I never seen from him before was in the 2nd half of the fight Thurman at times was pushing his punches and throwing a Khan-like 3 punch combo with no pop whatsoever. his punch resistance was weak as hell. Every straight punch Lopez landed sent his head flying straight back. He needs to restrengthen his neck. There were plenty of shades of pre injury Thurman last night but he's definitely gotta stay active, they need to throw him a Berto or Jessie Vargas next
