Comments Thread For: McGuigan: Eubank Jr. Will Beat DeGale, Maybe Stop Him Late

CHRIS EUBANK JR will beat James DeGale next month. That's the verdict of boxing trainer Shane McGuigan. Eubank is going head-to-head with long-time adversary DeGale in a super middleweight grudge match at the O2 Arena on February 23. It is a must-win bout for both fighters; DeGale is looking to rebuild his reputation after losing and beating rank outsider Caleb Truax in two gruelling encounters, while Eubank is still on the hunt for his maiden world title.

‘Struggles with power’ seems a bit of a broad statement. I think ‘blocks jabs with his face’ is more of his problem

Saunders isn’t a big puncher and he soundly out boxed him. I respect McGuigan but he did say Groves would beat Smith, Frampton would win LSC 2, Haye Bellew...

Indeed Eubank's stop Degale. Degale's done here.

That's my take too, although I don't necessarily think the stoppage has to come late. If Degale gets pinned on the ropes as he tends to and the punches are raining in without response I can see the ref stepping in, and that's something that could happen as early as round 4 or 5.

I’ve said I’m done picking Eubank jr for fights but I really think he stops degale too. Degale is finished and has stamina issues. That’s a a disaster when facing someone with an engine like jnr. If Degale has anything left he wins but I think he’s done out here

No he’s not. He looked OK in the Truax rematch. Eubank isn’t any better than Truax. He’s 30 this year and still can’t win a world title. DeGale will beat Eubank similar to the way BJS did. Eubank is ****, always has been.

Eubank better watch himself or DeGale will bludgeon his fists with his face and cruise to another draw.

I think everyone picking Eubank are doing the same thing as when they picked him to beat Groves - being completely one sided in your analysis. You all said he would over run and stop Groves but the reality played out very differently.
Degale won’t just lie on the ropes and let Eubank pummel him you know. He is far more skilled with faster hands and better shot selection and he will hit Eubank back.
I noticed he wobbled Truax in the rematch, and Truax is a big super middleweight who looked like a light heavyweight on the night. Eubank is a very small super middle.
Degale also dropped Jack and Dirrell, so he’s heavier handed than most people give him credit for.

Degale isn’t finished, he may be past his best, but if he was shot, he would have lost the Truax rematch like he did the first fight. He actually boxed nicely in parts of that fight. I still think he’ll have too much for Eubank. Eubank will always come up short against opponents above Euro level.
