Comments Thread For: Vergil Ortiz Stops Jesus Valdez in Five Rounds

Vergil Ortiz was extended deeper than he'd been as a pro to date, but still maintained his perfect knockout-to-win ratio in battering Mexico's Jesus Valdez over five rounds. A cut opened on the left eyelid of Valdez in round four, with the ringside doctor electing to stop the contest prior to the start of round six. The official time was 3:00 of round five in their DAZN-streamed super lightweight bout live from Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

Love watching Ortiz, one of the best prospects in the game, still super young and no need to rush him, just keep gradually building him up. The sky is the limit

Put him in with Hooker later this year! If chin holds up he's putting a beating on him.

That's still a huge jump from the guys he's fighting, needs a level in between before making that jump. I'd say 2 more fight before going for a title, I'd go Akirhiro Kondo next (dude is durable as hell and tough as nails) and then somebody like Ryan Martin. Win those 2 fights impressively, then go for a belt

For sure, not saying it should happen next but it can happen later this year. Ortiz is ready for step ups though. He's so calm and balanced with his attack. Similar to Spence in that regard. I want to see him in with someone that could crack a bit. If he passes that test, then good luck stopping this beast.
