StageWorks of Louisiana in Shreveport - In a battle of undefeated lightweights, Devin Haney (21-0, 13 KOs) nearly stopped Xolisani Ndongeni (25-1, 13 KOs) in the tenth and final round, but settled for a ten round unanimous decision win.

Let's all calm down about Haney. Which other fighter in the Ring or Boxrec top 10 is he actually going to beat?

I get it - he looks like a strong boxer, he has good timing, strong jab and short, quick punches, but he is still somewhat one dimensional. His body work and inside game that came late tonight looked good but he deployed them against a fatigued opponent whose power he did not respect. Also, he has a nice 1-2 jab straight right, but I don't see a very wide menu of punches.

He needs time and more offensive skills before he can truly be a contender. Unless Mikey drops his belt and Haney can fight for a vacant title, I don't see a path to a world championship this year (though perhaps they will find him an interim or "regular" belt to fight for).

I'd actually like to see him against Ray Beltran. That would be a real test and would establish him as an actual "contender."

      Did not see tonight's card.

I have never been sold on Haney.

Not sure what the rush is to be a contender.

Everything about Haney is impressive - except a lack of fight ending power which could hinder him at the higher levels. But he can possibly go far cause his style could overcome that.

Haney is average just very hyped this is 2 performances now he looks average against fighters he should have shined against. He doesn't have the power necessary to become a multi division champion if anything he might be able to win a belt at lightweight just on his raw talent, but even then he reminds me of Mickey Bey 2.0

this is a good step up for Haney but there are big dogs at lightweight.
Its good for him to get in the mix.

I feel like he has been watching too much Charlo and not enough Lomachenko - when he hurts his opponent he swings and telegraphs his overhand punches rather than staying calm, going to the body and working methodically to find another opening.

I might be wrong, but I saw Haney slow down late. He was breathing hard by the sixth and swinging wild looking for a KO. Shakur looks way more advanced and Teofimo has much bigger power.

He looks uncomfortable fighting on the front foot. Not sure what these fights are doing for him. He doesn't need to keep to a game plan because he can beat these guys on pure speed and talent.

                    Kid looks SHARP I thought

SKILLS PAY THE BILLS and to me he is probably the most WELL ROUNDED as far of BOXING SKILLS (with the exception of Shakur Stevenson maybe) and that will take him further than guys who are just scoring early KO's and not getting in rounds and developing into more well rounded fighters. The KO's make the Headlines and Highlights absolutely but the OVERALL SKILLS will get Haney to the Top and it will allow him to STAY THERE for a long time
