Comments Thread For: DeGale Promised Pre-Retirement World Title Shot By Al Haymon

James DeGale has denied that he is just boxing for money despite admitting to giving up his world title to chase money-spinning fights. The 32-year-old won back his prized belt in Las Vegas last year with victory in his rematch against Caleb Truax. DeGale was dethroned by the unheralded American back in December 2017 in London but he quickly won the return in April.

Talking about retirement doesn't bode well, IMO. Eubank is limited but he's strong as an ox and he keeps coming. He's also younger and fresher than Chunky and, since he hasn't achieved what Degale has as far as world honours, he's going to be that bit more driven... I can see Eubank mauling him in the 2nd half of the fight, question is whether Degale can build up a good enough lead to win on points. Groves nearly succumbed to the Eubank pressure in round 12 and he's probably a tougher man than Degale.

So Al Haymon, is telling him who he will fight and what he’ll be paid, and he’s not a manager? Also, telling him to ditch belts and his overall career path. Sounds very much like a manager to me...but nooo he’s just an ‘advisor’....boxing is soo messed up.

Nobody said he isn't an manager. He's not a promoter.

Neither degale or eubank appear to.punch particularly hard for the weight so might just be a question of who wants it the most? Degale has better all-round ability but tends to lose focus and take rounds off mid-fight so risks being outworked by eubank.

Groves had one arm in the 12th round, Eubank was landing and still couldn't hurt him. Groves was the one who actually hurt Eubank in that round, in the corner with an uppercut.
Degale has got a better chin than Groves too, who has always been chinny. Degale has never been stopped, only put down by Jack.
Groves was stopped by Froch twice and Smith, plus put down by Kenny Anderson and Jack.

Degale isn't a huge puncher, but he's actually deceptively heavy handed, similar to Calzaghe. He put Direll and Jack down. If he was feather fisted, guys would have just walked through him.
