There's alot of trash out there I know. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on some good boxing books/biography's. I heard the new Teddy Atlas book was pretty good, so Ima pick that up. Any other suggestions?

Except for Tyson I haven't seen any books on any of them, certainly not currently in print, anyway. There are a number of Tyson books. I haven't read them, though. You can look up Tyson on Amazon.com and you can see all of the books that are available on him and read comments from people who read the books giving their opinions.Originally posted by El Temibleis there any

I highly recommend Joe Louis:The Great Black Hope by Richard Bak as a great boxing biography. It details the fights well and goes into such aspects of his life as the military service, his ******** habits, his tough comeback attempt in the early '50s and his sad decline in later years. The mark of a good biography is when you feel like you know someone when you finish the book and this book achieved that. I see on Amazon.com, they have it used for $5.60. That's how I got it so with shipping and handling I didn't even pay $10 for a great read.Originally posted by Rane-Ex54There's alot of trash out there I know. I think that's my favorite boxing biography but I've also read and highly enjoyed Rocky Marciano: The Rock Of His Times which you can easily find in most bookstores. A Flame Of Pure Fire, Roger Kahn's biography of Jack Dempsey is very good. Unforgivable Blackness by Geoffrey C. Ward about Jack Johnson is a very good read. There's also Pound for Pound, a biography of Sugar Ray Robinson by Herb Boyd, from which I learned alot about him, but my only complaint is it didn't detail the fights anywhere near as well as the other books I mentioned.Comment

I`ve read Sugar Ray Robinson`s Pound for Pound bio. It was good, and I learned a lot about his life and what is was like in Harlem in the 1940`s and 50`s. The only bad thing was that it made me dislike him as a person. He was really a miserable abusive bastard in many ways. He is still my favorite fighter of all time though.Comment

I am reading thomas hausers book Muhammad Ali: his life and times. I have read about a third of it and it is a very in-depth biography which contains interviews with hundreds of Ali's friends and family. I have heard that Rocky Marciano...Biography of a first son is a good read but extremely difficult to find. I also have that dark trade boxing book that is shown in a link further up the thread. It is extremely insightful to the pains of boxers and their aspirations.Comment

Vitology Roidko is a good one.
It's about Vitology's rise to the top and how he abused steroids for most of his career.Comment

Yeah, the Hauser biography of Ali is really good also. The interviews add to the book. Any boxing book by Thomas Hauser that I've read is very good. I'm currently reading I Don't Believe It, But It's True: Another Remarkable Year In Boxing by him.Originally posted by The Raging BullI am reading thomas hausers book Muhammad Ali: his life and times.
