Comments Thread For: Malignaggi: Usyk Can Become Decent Sized Heavyweight

Former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi felt WBC, WBO, IBF, WBA cruiserweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk was the one boxer who really stuck out and elevated himself in 2018. Usyk unified the entire cruiserweight division and won twelve round unanimous decisions over unbeaten boxers Murat Gassiev and Mairis Briedis.

I don't know why cruiser always has to be a feeder division for heavyweight rather than its own thing. It's pretty anti-climactic watching one break through then just get shut down by someone with 5 inches on them, over n over.

      Re

Bryant Jennings...with Wilder refusing to put on any weight, him too, if he didnt have the KO power of the super heavyweights .

These days though, most guys are going 6-4 and up, 250 minimum!

Yeah back in the 90's Holyfield could roll with the bigger boys. Now days Holyfield wouldn't have as much success as they are even bigger now than back then

Usyk is a real fighter that actually faces the real competition in the division he competes in. Hopefully he doesn't get infected with the matchroom blueprint plan fighting bum after bum.

I believe he'll take 2 or 3 fights with lower level heavyweights, pack on the weight/muscle responsibly and then face the top guys.

Depending on how he takes a punch at the weight I wouldn't put it past him to outwork Aj and get a close decision. Aj isn't all that impressive really...

There was never a big money at cruiserweight.
