HW division is so depressing... Will it ever get back to at least 90's quality?

It'll never seem the same because boxing ain't the same - these dudes were household names because boxing was a much more popular sport and the hype and mystique behind these guys was massively greater... H2H? Probably not much in it between the top guys then and now... same old same old though.

If every generation since history began was right about the decline in masculinity since their fathers' day the males of today would have barely the strength to survive til adulthood yet alone the strength or conviction to even think about lacing up a pair of boxing gloves or... god forbid.. throwing a punch.
Lots of truth in this statement. HW division peaked in the 90's and spilled over on to early 2000's it died really with Lennox Lewis. (and I'm a K Bros fan fyi but they buried the division).

I debate that heavyweights are the cream of the crop. I have always liked the best welterweights, Middleweights and light heavyweights just as much or more. You are carried away with how good the heavyweights of the 90s were. You say the 2nd tier heavyweights of the 90s wipe the floor with today's best. I doubt that. I think you are overrating the heavyweights of the 90s and underrating today's heavyweights. Today's heavyweights can't fight the heavyweights of 20 years ago so nobody knows for sure how they would do against them including you. You are just guessing and you don't know how today's best would do against the best of the 90s. Who are you to call AJ a coward? AJ makes his living fighting and risks injury or death every time he enters the ring. He is not a coward. Why do you rate Holyfield as an elite heavyweight and Bowe as 2nd tier when Bowe beat Holyfield 2 times out of 3?

dreadful Klit bros era?? they killed 2 generations of young fighters and the older ones. nobody beat them without getting bludgeoned and beaten into history in the rematch. Vitali "lost" to Lewis who I liked and retired him also. I say Lewis would also tear thru the HW's today but not Fury

I think AJ gets beat up by Lennox rather easily . Fury style makes him a tough out against anyone. Then again that’s why these discussion are great.
          And that’s that
Hardly any HW could have beaten Lennox and the Klit bros at any time

I was ringside for Ray Mercer vs Lennox Lewis at the Garden.
You want to witness 10 rounds of heavy hitting , YouTube that fight and think if Big Baby Miller or Dillion whyte last 5 rounds with either or AJ can stand up to the punches that those guys threw

Meh the division has just as much potential to be great as the 90's which probably had one top-10 HW all-time in Lennox.

Tyson was a gatekeeper in the 90's. Bowe flamed out after like two fights. Even Holyfield and Lennox lost fights they should have won.

This era could be the best since the 70's which are and probably always be the best era..

I always hear people say the 70s was the era of great heavyweights and I sometimes say you cant really compare different eras and time periods and that is just a opinion the 70s was great era with no proof apart from eye test.
But then you get Foreman who was from that era coming back and giving current heavyweights fits and nightmares, then you get idea that it really must have been strong era.
Without foreman coming back, it would just be guesswork that todays heavyweight divisions are weak. Holyfield said Foreman had hardest punch he received I believe. Im assuming Foreman hit harder in the 70s.

That said, you easily could make 4 or 5 cards headlined by HWT fights that would really be interesting. If not that, you could make like an Ortiz/Joyce fight as a semi main for a Charlo, Hurd or Spence card that would attract more viewers.

IMO the sport is always better off when the HWT division is interesting and exciting.
I do think eventually we will get a guy that's 250lbs and has the speed, coordination, skills, chin, etc etc of some of the 200-220lb heavyweight greats, and he will go on to become better than everything before...It's a matter of when not if in my opinion

fury looked ok because hes win adn draw of note are against an oaf and a one dimensional guy. dont rate fury until he gets a prime top win, he wuld not make it to a title in the 90s aside from wbo, which wasnt a title back then.
