it's still tribalism, it's not productive and it gets in the way of sound discourse and being a real fan of the sport.

that said, it's a hell of a lot better to be nationalistic than it is to be racist. obivously. if you're rooting for guys because they're brown, black, blue, whatever, you are racist. that's just reality.

Some Mexican fans get carried away with it. I used to go to fights at the LA forum and if a favorite Mexican boxer lost they would riot and trash the place even when when the decision was a fair one. When Hagler went to England and KOed Minter they threw beer bottles at him and he need a police escort to leave the building. There is nothing wrong with national pride as long as good sportsmanship goes along with it. There is no logical reason to hate a Mexican boxer because of a few out of control Mexican fans. Most Mexican fans aren't like that but it only takes a few nutballs to give them a bad name.

Spence vs Garcia is just another fight between a Mexican and a black fighter. There must be hundreds of those fights every year. I guess because they are two of the very best it brings out the worst racism from some people. It shouldn't. They are all pro boxers and should share a common bound of pride in their sport. Many black boxers have Mexican trainers and many Mexican boxers have black trainers. Sometimes the Mexican wins and sometimes the black boxer wins. It just means that one boxer was better than the other boxer that one time.

Way to blow this out of PROPORTION.

Does every race have dudes who only support boxers of their race? Absolutely? Is it ****** af? 100% yes. There are plenty or ricans, mexicans, black fight fans who only show up here to s**t on fighters who they don't identify with and only show up to support who they identify with. Nationalism is also ****** AF...consider both men who enter the ring are leaving chunks of their lives in the ring at a time and facing life changing punishment potentially every second of a fight. See my signature. I am a huge advocate for supporting all boxers of all walks of life, not just who looks like me when I stand in front of a mirror.

Yea I hate that. Lock their asses up.

Same thing when teams in LA win, they trash the city.

              Lock those idiots up. Idiots.

Meh, I don't see the problem with it.

If a Puerto Rican is going to watch a fight because Trinidad is fighting, so be it.

Same with my filipino friends. They only knew about Pacrat and nothing else. Didn't care.

In the world cup, soccer fans root for their countrymen. Germans go apeshiiit when their team scores, France as well, Mexico as well. No way in hell you're going to tell me they aren't 'true' soccer fans.

do they want the best team to win? in boxing that is the basis of the sport. the best fight the best and you have an objective reality of who is best.

if you have that much investment in one fighter you lost sight of what is important, the best fighting the best, great fights, and parody.

so no, you're not real fans. i am an objective fan of the sport, ahve no local or racial ties. i study it and i make determinations based on that. fighters appeal to me naturally. they fight hard, or they have power, or they have a compelling backstory, or they have great skills.

if fighters appeal to you because of skin tone or where they're from i consider you less of a fan of the sport, and that's all there is to it. there's deinitely a place for people liek that, they move betting lines and they sell tickets. but don't act liek they're not children in a room full of adults when a real, objective, student of the sport is around in numbers.

in the case of anthony joshya, for instance, you've got dudes who don't want to see the most compelling matchup at HW in years because they act like they're getting a cut of joshya's check. they are literally fanboys of a promoter! there's no seat at a decent table for that! those are casual fans!

One can be objective and still be a fan of a nation/province.

A Puerto Rican Trinidad fan can come to grips and say hey, Oscar was the better more talented boxer and Tito only won because Oscar's team told him to run the last 3 rounds. If not, DLH wins.

In that case it debunks your statement.

As a Mexican fan, I can say Canelo got schooled against Mayweather without batting an eye. I can be a Mexico fan, and be objective.

Just like a German soccer fan can say his German team at the world cup this year was total ass.

Just look at the media post on Instagram & Youtube about a Mexican fighter vs a non Mexican and you will see a what I’m talking about especially the Garcia vs Spence fight situation!
....but Garcia and Spence are both Americans. The national pride should be the "God Bless America" but everybody keeps on talking about a fight between a black guy and a Mexican guy.
