Comments Thread For: Ryan Garcia: 135 Will Be Ideal Weight For Me To Win World Title

NEW YORK Back-to-back victories at lightweight have convinced Ryan Garcia that he should remain within the 135-pound division to pursue his first world title shot. Oscar De La Hoya, Garcia's promoter, is confident that the popular prospect-turned-contender will be ready to fight for a lightweight championship at some point in 2019.

kid is still really green, hasnt faced a puncher yet and has not developed his "grown man strength" yet. They better keep moving him along carefully and I assume they will. Oscar's hoping for him to be the next generation Canelo in the future.

I think him vs. Felix Verdejo is probably the best prospect matchup out there, plus the PR Mexico rivalry

Seen alot of improvement working with Eddy Reynoso & being around Canelo has also boosted this kids confidence (if that is possible). 135lbs is perfect for him, Keep featuring KingRy on the bigger GBP cards until it's time to step up. Right now there is no need to rush him. A couple more full camps with the new team is ideal.

He cant create his own offense. He is a pure counter puncher.

He tried to jab in his last fight, and it didn't really work out. That **** wont fly at the top level. I got Luke Campbell beating him.

Relax kid is only 20 yrs old lol and already under the Reynosos he’s shown alotta improvement.

He’s physically gifted and has all the tools to go a long way and with the haters already doing their jobs he’ll be a hellluva draw eventually.

That will be hard to do with guys like Tank, Haney, Lopez in the division. I hope he has success tho

              Not really

He’s physically just as gifted or Maybe even more so than those guys.

First off Haney looks like you’re typical potshotting point fighters nothin special at all, Teofimo looks like the goods but Garcia is not that far beind the only difference is people love to hate the kid he’s too popular already so they feel the need to bring him down unlike Teofimo and Haney who probably have half the fans Ryan does.

As for tank the guy was already a champ and should not be considered a prospect but considering his out of the ring behavior success for him in the ring isn’t looking to good right now.

Lol Teofimo has shown he's much more advanced it's funny for you to say RG is not far behind. Teofimo could put up competitive fight if not beat Loma and Mickey Garcia RIGHT NOW.

I'll take Haney over Garcia as well. It's not like Garcia is a harder puncher than potshooting Haney and Haney is a much better Haney.

Nothing wrong with being a pure counter puncher.
Some of the best fighters in history have been pure counter punchers...

You're right with your assesment, additionaly His arsenal of counter shots is basic and predictable. His countering right is good shot, but left hook is wide and without great leverage.

If He can't make 130 anymore, I don't think He'll ever win legimate world title. Golden Boy might get him some bull**** Interim or regular belt against C level fighter, You never know.. but top guys at 135 are way out of reach.
Not only that, the top up and comers who will be going for titles within couple years - Gervonta, Teofimo, Haney, Rocky Hernandez are just level above in talent.

He's not bad, but his hype is way beyond what his abilities would justify. He's the same level of prospect as Romero Duno or Lamont Roach, his stablemates in GB... One thing He does better than those 2 is promoting himself in social media.
I’m willing to bet he’ll win a legit world title.

The hate is strong with the kid and that’s gonna help his popularity big time.

Actually last time a 20 yr old kid was hated this much In Boxing was a 20 yr old Oscar De La Hoya. He’s no Oscar yet but he already has folks hating and talking s he’s doing something better than the rest of the guys you mentioned.
