  • Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Canelo Must KO Golovkin in Trilogy, No Decision

As BoxingScene.com previously reported, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez did not rule out facing Gennady Golovkin for a third time after the Mexican star punished Rocky Fielding inside three rounds in New York. Alvarez became a three-weight world champion by outmuscling and outclassing WBA 'regular' super middleweight holder Fielding via a third-round knockout at Madison Square Garden on Saturday.

That is going to be a tough task. Styles make fights and those two can fight 10 times and their fights would be very close. If someone like Charlo stops GGG i would be surprised.

They’ve shown that they are an even match twice. In my opinion Nelo carried the bias with the judges, but nobody worth their salt would expect anything close to lean towards GGG. Nelo doesn’t need a third fight. If he gave him one, it’d be cause he himself had something to prove or it’d have to be the most money out there. It took so long to make the first two that GGG is on paper and by eye test past his prime. Canelo might be at his best. I mean until Canelo is 36-38yrs old having to fight a young lion will things be put into perspective. I thought Nelos footwork was his weakness but it’s improved a lot. GGG had great feet but now it’s not what it was.

Yeah because they waited for GGG to get old first so now you're left with an old product that isn't half as entertaining or interesting or meaningful as it should have been, and the PPV buys suffered in the rematch as a result, going down instead of up.

With that said, it's still the most interesting opponent for Canelo, and maybe even for GGG, at 160, or if they fight at 168.

Now if you're telling me Canelo is really willing to mix with the best guys at 168 and Bivol especially who can make 168 easily, then when we have something, but if it's between Canelo-Callum Smith (hell no zero interest in that), Canelo-Jacobs, Canelo-Andrade, Canelo-BJS, and Canelo-Charlo, and Canelo-GGG III, I'd take Canelo-GGG III or Canelo-Jacobs.

What I'd really like to see though are these fights:

                GGG-Hurd or GGG-Spence at 160
                GGG-Callum Smith at 168

Canelo-Dmitry Bivol at 168, or even Plant, Benavidez, or Uzcetagui. Any of the 168s with speed and strength at minimum, preferably speed and power. Those are really the two things any boxer needs to be considered a top opponent for any "top" boxer, BOTH speed and power, unless the skill and fitness is so overwhelming as to compensate for not having elite power. Canelo has never faced a single opponent his size with BOTH speed and power so these would be the first time which is why I doubt it happens.

Charlo-Dmitry Bivol at 168. These guys are the same size and Charlo, like Canelo, has also never faced a single opponent his size with good speed AND knockout power. Would be nice to see if Charlo actually lives up to the hype after all this talk, and the only way to prove that is to fight a top opponent your size with speed, power, skills, stamina, chin, you know, a top boxer, not someone with major obvious weaknesses that everyone knows will be exploited before the fight even starts.

                Jacobs-Charlo at 160

                Bivol-Benavidez anywhere between 168 and 175
                Bivol-Zurdo anywhere between 168 and 175
                Bivol-Plant anywhere between 168 and 175
                Bivol-Smith anywhere between 168 and 175

As well as any of the other 175 champs fight any of the big 168 champs at 175 once they move up. Bivol is the only one who can come down.

These are the fights that would bring big subscriber numbers to something like DAZN or ESPN+, or bring good ratings on TV. Stop using artificial weight separations to prevent the best from fighting the best. Judge boxers by their true natural size, and then make the best matchups a reality. The best matchup from 160 to 175 is probably Bivol vs Charlo between 168 and 175, but because Charlo is staying down at 160 for the money there and Bivol is at 175 because there is more money there than 168, no one is talking about. Put that bull**** aside and open everyone's eyes to the fact they are the same size and it's the best available matchup.

Hopefully boxing moves to a second day weigh in the NIGHT/late afternoon of the fight, only 5 lbs above the friday official weigh-in, and then this issue would be resolved 100% and the sport could thrive and flourish again.

GGG was robbed in the first fight by Adalaide Byrd.......

Officially a draw but according to fan boy a win for Clen-nelo!

The PED cheat was give a reward of a year delay in the rematch!

So Clen was a young 28 year old (by about 6 weeks) and GGG was an old 36 year old.

Even if you give GGG a third fight he will be an old 37 when it happens at the earliest but most likely at 38!

You moved up to 168! Clean house at 168 and you might earn my respect!

Fan boy: "Canelo destroyed Fielding three!"

Callum Smith did it in one!
