Comments Thread For: Lamont Roach Ready For Title Shot After Beating Mercado

Lamont Roach Jr. made it look routine, stopping one opponent in the first round and delivering a near shutout 10-round unanimous decision over another 41 days later last fall. Roach knocked out Luis Hinojosa at The Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York, on October 21, 2017, and routed Rey Perez, 99-91, on all three judges cards on November 30 at The MGM Grand in Oxon Hill, Maryland, near his hometown of Upper Marlboro.

I like Roach and he definitely has talent and potential to get better but I don't think he's ready for any of the champions in his division...
Out of all the champions in his division I give Roach the best chance to beat the Japanese fighter and even then that's a very hard fight for him..
But much props to him for wanting to fight them all and I hope he does win a championship soon!

I think that he is about one or two fights away from getting a title shot...

One of those organizations has Ryan Garcia ranked above him, and I wouldn't be surprised if Garcia gets a shot before he does.

Damn for real?? I didn't know that!
But Garcia fights at lightweight now. They're not in the same division anymore.
But Garcia definitely isn't ready for Lomachenko or Mikey Garcia.
He still needs a few more fights under his belt before he can even be considered for a title shot I think,...
But I feel Roach needs to let his hands go a little more when he gets his opponents in trouble..
I don't think he takes enough chances...
This is boxing so sometimes you just gotta go for it!
But I think 2-3 more fights and then he definitely should go for a title shot.
He has skills and a good boxing IQ and he's only 23 so time is definitely on his side..
Hope it happens by the end of 2019!
        I really hope it does!

Yeah both Roach and Garcia are in the WBO rankings in the same division even though Garcia had his fight against Rodriguez at lightweight last weekend.

Just gotta see where they position Roach in 2019 to see if he gets that opportunity or not
