Wilder ducked real competition for years.

Namely, Wladimir Klitschko.

At least AJ had the balls to fight Wladimir, as well as top 10 heavyweights, regularly.

They overplayed their hand and now are desperately trying to get back in the mix. Sure, Joshua will always do his numbers — but the luster is gone.

The luster is gone because everyone saw Fury beat Wilder. Hardly anyone would be interested in a rematch if Fury wasn't robbed too. In the long run it won't make much difference, a Fury fight will be just as big as a Wilder fight would have been.

Who else has he fought? Literally no one of any note. “Almost” fought Povetkin, and turning down Klitschko because he “wasn’t ready” is the closest he has been to another opponent.

But has AJ fought anyone competitive to be fair? Well AJ has been about only five years, won his first belt within 16 fights, unified twice and beat Klitschko, Whyte, Povetkin, Parker to name a few.
