Commey first must defeat Isa Chaniev in their fight for the vacant IBF lightweight title, scheduled for February 2 in Frisco, Texas. Ghana's Commey (27-2, 24 KOs) and Russia's Chaniev (13-1, 6 KOs) will fight for a championship Mikey Garcia relinquished to move up to welterweight to challenge IBF 147-pound champ Errol Spence Jr. on March 16 in Arlington, Texas.

I know Commey was never a PBC fighter but he fought on a couple of their cards. After getting rejected by Mikey it’s good to see he’s in the mix for Loma. I thought commey had edged Easter. That was a good fight.

Loma vs. Commey will be OK, but I know what I'm waiting for...BROOKLYN:

Is Teofimo Lopez a future Lomachenko opponent?

You may have heard that PapaFimo barked at Team Loma at the fighters’ hotel a couple days ago. Greg Leon had deets on Boxing Talk:

“I just told them how I feel. I told them that we’re going to steal the show again and we’re coming to take his head off soon. ... He ain’t nobody man, I don’t know why people praise this guy,” said Teofimo’s dad Teofimo Senior. “This guy is terrible and everybody saw it on Saturday when he looked terrible. This guy won’t last two rounds with my son and I’ll put all my money on that. He’s too fragile for my son, and we already that they’re not going to fight us because we’re going to end his career. Top Rank would love for him to do it because it would set him up as a $50M fighter. Top Rank doesn’t need this guy. He couldn’t even sell out a 5,000 seat arena. This guy is a fake and he’s always been a fake to me. We would have killed Pedraza in one round. We’re putting Lomachenko to sleep. He’s just too small. Loma is never going to be able to beat my son. If he fights this way with my son he might get knocked out seconds into the first round. My son is going to be the best boxer in history and he’s only 21 right now and I believe he only landed with like 50-60% of his power on that shot that finished Menard off.”

Commey should be undefeated. I thought he beat Easter and Shafikov!

I agree with this. I don't know if he would be a live dog against Loma.

I thought he lost to Shafikov but Loma vs Commey would be a very good fight.

He's not a glamorous name but he's a good fighter, would definitely be a challenge for Loma. Hopefully he'll be the next opponent after the Crolla mando

Commey wouldn't be a bad move for a fight next year. I guess his year will be Commey for the IBF, Berchelt on a PPV and he'll have to get that Crolla mandatory out of the way.

Commey deserved the Easter win and is a good fighter but he would lose a very wide decision with Lomachenko.

Commey is a tough, strong dude but I can see another Walters-style "no mas" with this match up. I feel he's not nearly got the skills to live with Loma.

I'd bet him on that. I'll offer him odds too.

I think 2019 is far too soon for the fight and Lopez would get busted up. Maybe towards mid/late 2020 he could be a viable opponent. I'd like to see him fight 5-6 times next year and maybe fight some gatekeepers and contenders. He has a lot of potential.
