Canelo is the REAL people's champ. Lets pay our respects.

    The people's CHAMP:
    • Became a world champ at 20
    • Became a unified champ at 22
    • Fought Trout and Mayweather in back to back fights
    • Fought Lara a year later
    • Fought Cotto the next year and won a title in his 2nd weight division
    • Became a champ again at 154 a year later
    • Fought the "boogeyman" twice in back to back fights. With the 2nd time coming off a year layoff and surgery
    • Beat GGG, became a unified champ at 160
    • Not only did he beat GGG but he beat his ass "Mexican style"
    • is now fighting at 168 only 3 months after his victory

    VAMOS CANELO

Multiple failed tests and a few gift decisions balance things out a little bit. A good fighter but far from a great one in the tradition of the great Mexican fighters like Marquez, Morales, Barrera.

Great thread though. Canelo's resume is vastly superior to guys like Lomaputa, Crawford, M. Garcia, and Usyk. And people forget he is younger than all of those guys.

As good as Canelo has been so far, we still might not have seen his best at only 28 years old. He might just be entering his prime.

Hopefully he fights Andrade, Jacobs, either Charlo, Munguia, and Ramirez to cement his legacy as a Top 10 Mexican great.

Elite on the current scene I'd agree but he's not a special fighter or great fighter by any stretch. It's debatable whether he beat Lara and like it or not the majority felt GGG was 2-0 against him and Golovkin is a good fighter but not great and he's clearly old. Some suggest Golovkin is a bad fighter.

I don't think he'd give any kind of contest to the likes of Hagler, Monzon, Hopkins, Toney, Jones, McCallum for example and even the likes of Nunn, Johnson, Kalambay, Martinez he'd probably need favorable judging.

Not in the class of Marquez, Morales, Barrera, Lopez, Chavez, Olivares, Sanchez, Saldivar, Canto and Zarate on the Mexican all-time list but a good fighter no doubt.

If he didn't get busted for PED's during the build up to the rematch he would gain all my respect but until he defends his RING title successfully

I give my respect to Canelo for sure. Fighting champion, backed up the big bad boogeyman at the MW division. Little Canelo took the fight to the bigger man and took his best shots. Got schooled by Floyd but didn't let that get to him, instead used that fight as motivation and came back a better fighter.

                    Respect to Canelo!
