Comments Thread For: Wilder Will Add Weight For Fury Rematch; Targets 245 Pounds

He was gassing out after 7 rounds at 209 lbs and had to start conserving his stamina. At 34 and having been sub 220 for years this sounds like an awful idea

He's not beating Fury on points.
And Wilder wasn't at his full power in round 12.
Why not bulk up and unload his full arsenal in the first six rounds?
Overpower the Gypsy King and get him out of there. Deontay "The Hulk" Wilder!

I never understood why he got his weight so low in the first place. I'm all for being lean and dropping the excessive weight, the exact thing that Joshua would be smart to do. It served Canelo well, for example. But Wilder's frame is so big that he should never have dropped to 210lbs. I think that the range of 225-235lbs would be good for him. But first thing he should change if looking for any improvement is to improve his skills. I know he's limited and isn't capable of turning into Duran overnight but there's a lot of simple things that he could do better against Fury, like hooking of the jab when Fury leans to his right and faking the jab and throwing the left hook. It's impossible to turn Deontay into Floyd but he could work at least on setting up his shots. Unfortunately for him, he never does it and doesn't look like he's willing to try it.

not 245 pounds!!!
245 pounds?! Wilder should never go above 235 and I'm even willing to say that he should max out at 225 or 230! If one were to look at the bet performances of the past champs, you'll notice that once they cross the 235 pound barrier, they're performance starts to deteriorate. I could share multiple examples, but you guys know the sport as well as I do.
Now that's out of the way, to real meat an potatoes of the problem with Wilder. Yes, there was a noticeable improvement over the last few fight and the Ortiz fight gave people hope that the heavyweight's were making a come back. Well, they're not! We basically have 2 guys and lots of pretenders Wilder being one of them. I used to laugh at Porter and Bradley swinging wildly with eye closed and would have paid to see them fight each other (will they knock each other out or the ref by accident..)
Anyways, Wilder has had plenty of time to train seriously on daily basis and that performance against Fury was pure comedy gold!!! Charlie Chaplin boxing 101!!

Genetics do diff things to diff people, ultimately Wilder's weight loss has something to do with the natural loss of testosterone that occurs once you get into your 30's IMO.
Most men will gain weight or fat at that point, but others with a tall or lanky lean build like Wilder or even Mayweather will lose weight unless they work out with weights, over eat or both. I assume for Wilder's size he doesn't have a big appetite to begin with...
I just worry about his mobility at the higher weight at this point he hasn't been over 220 in some time now and he's older at the tail end of his prime so it could be detrimental putting on too much weight, 218-222 range is probably best atp

He should be focusing on optimizing his jab, and ring movement. He needs fundamentals before his athleticism starts to betray him. At 212 he can drop every fighter in the game, so weight probably isn't the issue, more than not knowing how to box is.

Why is he talking about the weight Fury was when Fury didn't even use his weight in the fight? It's not as if he leaned on him all night and roughed him up.
Wilder just making excuses as per usual. Besides, the more he weighs, the slower he'll become. His punches will become even more telegraphed than they already are. But Wilder isn't exactly smart is he? He makes Amir Khan sound like a brain surgeon.
