Reminded me of the book I recently read, The Last Great Fight by Joseph Layden. About Douglas and Mike Tyson.
It was excellent and had an easy reading style. It had much before and after on the 2 men. Much behind the scenes stuff. One reason Douglas trained little for the Holyfield fight was that there were so many lawsuits going on and he was flying to both coasts to testify.
His weight problems--which you saw last week--are delved into. Nearly died and went into a coma as he finally consented to go to a hospital and had a blood sugar level over 800.
There is much on Douglas' boxer father William "Dynamite" Douglas and also on Buster's trainer and manager. He had legal disputes with them too.
Dynamite was a fearless man and boxer. Buster himself preferred basketball and for a while when young gave up boxing and tried the basketball route but didn't make it so went back to boxing.
Tyson made over $300 million and declared bankruptcy. Douglas made vastly less but saved and invested wisely and continues to look for local investing and has been a happy family man ever since. Buster's always been a very likable man. And a very happy man post boxing.
I highly recommend this book.
And that was the last great HW fight.
