The bolded? Nah. You don't. That's just the common misinterpretation the adage 'you got to beat the champ...' Championship fights are scored the exact same way as any other fight, what that phrase means is simply that if it's a draw then the Champ keeps his belt. Very common mistake though, enough so that it could well be self fulfilling.
But yeah... Look man, if I tried real hard I could probably give Wilder the other 3 rounds, probably 2, 5 and 7, but I didn't and that wasn't the fight I saw. What I saw was Wilder missing a lot and being made to look baffled and bewildered for nearly all of the time when Fury wasn't actually on the floor. I ain't a big fan of Compubox for scoring fights, but the 13 punch difference actually represents something close to 20% of Wilders total landed. If you take out 9 and 12 which we know Wilder won the punch totals over the remaining 10 rounds become 72 vs 47 which means Fury outlanded Wilder by 50%... plenty enough to be considered clear.
Sh1t... getting dragged into it when I said I wasn't gonna.
I'll try to let it lie. Night, man.
