Comments Thread For: Tyson Fury-Deontay Wilder: Afterthoughts

It ended as it began. Deontay Wilder is still the WBC heavyweight champion. Tyson Fury retains the lineal crown. He is still the man who beat the man. More people, it seems, think Fury won enough rounds to overcome two knockdowns, the latter of which has already become part of the folklore of boxing.

Hearing 320k US PPV buys ($24 million in revenue) and over 900k UK PPV buys ($22.5 million in revenue).

So we're talking about $23.25 million for the fighters to split (assuming the UK distributors get a similar 50% cut of revenue).

That's one hell of a night. The reports of $14 million for Wilder and $10 million for Fury seem to be spot on.

    A good night for boxing...

*Edit: Hearing the live gate did $6 million. Total pot of $52.5 million.

That's a hell of a profit for both men, make no mistake. But it's still slightly less than what Hearn offered Wilder to come and fight Joshua in the UK regardless of that being a flat-rate offer.
I get the feeling Wilder's team has cut off their nose to spite their face - they had the chance for all that and the undisputed title but turned down the offer out of pride. Plus if he beat Joshua he would have got even more in the rematch.
Hopefully Hearn and Finkel can finally sit around a table like mature adults and thrash out a deal for the unification, then Fury can chase the winner afterwards.

Ok... let me get this right.. Fury, and the manfans say that Wilder is a Bum,
Wilder weighed in at 212 and is two inches shorter than fury who was 260 .. talk about a david vs Goliath.. but Goliath moves away from little david an his sling shot.. throwing sticks and peebles.. the entire fight.. until david nails Goliath with a rock to the forehead... and almost killed Goliath just before sundown.... luckily the ref was there to administer the breathlyzer.. before allowing the giant to continue, they fight to a draw at sundown, but back in the castle of England.. the Giants all party and talk about how david is still a bum?. second best fightin man in the world Smh. This makes zero sense.

Hearn, Finkel really need to get the Wembley date for Wilder and AJ. It's still the biggest fight in the heavyweight division and it saves Dilian Whyte the indignity of having to get dropped by AJ again.

I'm going to be honest with you, I think Hearn/Finkel were not interested in making that fight yet. What we've been seeing publicly is just clever PR/posturing.

There was an interview Eddie gave right after the VK fight where he talked about how big the Wilder fight could get (pointing to Mayweather v. Manny). Then I read an article from Kevin Iole detailing what insiders from Wilder's side was saying when Wilder was going to accept the $15M offer (they were saying he should build up the Joshua fight instead).

I think what they planned has happened. All parties are about to get a whole lot richer because of the patience they had about this. Fury coming back was just what everybody needed. Now all three of those guys should rack in a minimum of $50 million apiece over the next 2 years.

We've had to endure this ride, but the HW division is on fire now and the fighters are better off for it. Maybe those managers/promoters know a little bit afterall lol

I follow a bunch of different writers/bloggers on Twitter so I could post screenshots, but I don't know how to do that from my phone lol

But Mike Coppinger was the source for the US PPV figure.
The live gate and UK figures came from bloggers who were responding to his posts.

None of what I posted is official yet, but in the past, those internet "bloggers/writers" usually are on point. I'm hoping it's all right info. Boxing needs more stars.

The PBC/FOX promo material has been wonderful so far imo.

I really hope GBP figures out how to tap into the digital market via DAZN.

Btw, random question: What do you know about Zanfer in Mexico?

Judges should all be retired professional fighters who are known for their honesty & unbiased views. Paulie should be one, and probably Lennox.
