Well, in this day and age it's pretty easy to verify whether he had surgery or not. It's pretty hard to lie about having surgery on your arm. Malik Scott has already said they did zero sparring in camp leading up to the fight.

In the post fight Wilder said that he was sparring guys for 2 rounds each in rotation.

At a guess i'd say everyone watching that fight was someone who 'watches boxing', from casual fans through professional pundits and actual fighters and their trainers. No one noticed because there was nothing to see.

If Wilder would have won in a convincing fashion, we would have never heard about this supposed broken arm, but since most thought he lost, he had to think of an excuse . If this broken arm wasn't an issue before the fight, it shouldn't be an issue after the fight, win, lose or draw.
