If Wilder only knew how to fight.

Sometimes you can be with a good trainer, but it's not the right trainer for your talents. Maybe it's something like that, but even the people that say he has some skills, I don't think would argue that he's not half as good as he could be.
And I'm not taking anything from Fury he did well, but truth be told he wasn't at his best either.
From a marketing standpoint it's intriguing, this fight helps him tons. People do want to see the guy that is going to get out boxed but still somehow wins. I can't argue that at all, so much of this game today is about money, marketability.
I just think this guy potentially could have been something special.
And as far as the "kid" comment I made, it's not his age it's his skills. He's at the top of the heavyweight division and he fights like he hasn't been doing it that long and lacking experience relies entirely on power. That's how an inexperienced fighter fights, that's how a "kid" fights.
Anyway that was just how it struck me, not having really followed him, I was thinking how could he have come this far and never really learned how to fight?Comment

I dont think Martinez was skilled. He was extremely talented possessing great athleticism and high level reflexes, but he was definitely not a text book fighter like someone who has boxed since kids.
Hopkins also had his own style, he is an anomaly. BHop was very unorthodox yet extremely effective and it helped with his longevity as he didn't get hit clean often and knew how to hurt his opponents beating by making them ineffective.Comment
