Comments Thread For: Adonis Stevenson-Oleksandr Gvozdyk: Stats & Stakes

For several years, Adonis Stevenson's reign in the light heavyweight division was marked by questions about who he wasn't fighting and then, later, inactivity. Neither of those has been an issue in 2018. Making his second start in a calendar year for the first time since 2015, Stevenson held off a strong challenge from Badou Jack in May, hanging on to his crown in a memorable draw. Now he faces his WBC mandatory, one of the brightest new lights in the division. Oleksandr Gvodyk won the bronze for his native Ukraine at the 2012 Olympics.

I could see the other Bronze Bomber winning this because Stevenson just looked old in his last fight with Jack. Hasn't looked elite since the Bellew fight.

I think stevenson age will finally catch up.

He went life and death with a 168 guy recently.

If gordyk uses his legs he'll win

I'm still amused about the casuals who say Stevenson is old and bla-bla-bla when he actually won Round 10 and 11 against Jack... and Jack was looking as gassed as it can be taking the beating... Guys, please...

dafuq u mean, Badou Jack has been a big smw for years and even had a fight with Nathan Cleverly @ 175 before fighting Stevenson, i sure as hell think that qualifies as being a legit 175lber, besides Badou Jack dont get the respect he deserves, hes a very good fighter thats very underrated, and he beat up James DeGale badly in their fight and got robbed with a draw, same goes for the Bute fight, altho that did get turned over to dq win

Stevenson still has the bounce in the first two rounds, then he slows down and his punches are telegraphed. Gvozdyk seems the opposite, slow as in the first two, then speeds up.

Stevenson still has that one punch quitter, and Gvozdyk seems slow to move his head out the way at times. He's liable to get caught clean early unless he's cleared that problem up. But if he gets through the first three, I can see him taking most of the last 9 rounds. Stevenson hasn't looked great for a while now, Gvozdyk might be catching him at just the right time.

Gvodzyk's punch resistance is going to get tested tonight. I understand anyone can be knocked down, hurt, or stopped (especially in the 1st round), but that Karpency knock down might have been an aberration or foreshadowing.

Gvodzyk is going to be a tough fight if Stevenson doesn't get his respect, but Adonis has displayed the toughness to get through and win tough fights and I don't expect this to be any different.

Is there a way to watch this fight outside of the US?
