With Wilder vs. Fury, we hear that Wilder has to just land the one big bomb.
With Stevenson vs. Gvodzdyk, it's the same thing. Stevenson only needs to land one big left hand.
With Usyk vs. Bellew, a lot of the hype surrounded this same idea. Usyk can't crack. Bellew can and so he just has to land that one big shot.
So far, of course, Bellew failed to deliver. He landed on Usyk but in the end, he himself got KO'd.
This brings a question to mind. Is the one big punch what world class boxing is really all about? Sure. Knockouts are impressive but so many big fights go to the cards at this level. On Saturday, we could very well see Stevenson crack Gvodzdyk and Wilder flatten Fury. However, it seems a bit strange that these two are so highly favored simply because they hit hard. I mean, yes. They hit very hard, no doubt. Still, skills do tend to neutralize power. During the runs of many famous boxers like Floyd Mayweather and Larry Holmes and Muhammad Ali, these guys neutralized the power of big punchers very often. Of course, these are different fighters but you've got two boxers versus two punchers. Don't the boxers historically come through usually?
Food for thought...
