Does Tyson Fury have anything to lose? Does Wilder have much to gain? Has Wilder ever been in a position like this where he's fighting a man who is supremely confident of victory and has nothing to lose?
I feel if Fury wins, he will be revered and be the only man to have won all the alphabelts without losing any in the ring. Whereas if Wilder wins, people will feel he beat a man past his best who wasn't ready.
In an odd way it's as though a win for Fury legitimizes his claim as the Lineal champion, but a win for Wilder would make people scoff at that title.
I think Wilder has to win in spectacular fashion just to keep on course for the Anthony Joshua fight and to maintain anything like a bit of bargaining leverage for that fight. If he loses he is going to have to get in line and bend over, and accept whatever he is offered.
