We've seen their incompetence on numerous occasions, with some showing consistent patterns of blatant corruption and NOTHING is done about it. I don't get it.
Why do we give referees so much power.

Who is going to do anything about it?
Boxing hasn't got one overall governing body to oversee it all. The individual governing bodies, promoters and commissions are all as corrupt as each other, so i doubt they're going to do much about referees. -

There should be oversight, for sure, but referees should absolutely have as much power as they do in terms of what they do in the ring. You need someone to make those decisions - however difficult - when the moment calls for it. And it has to be one person. If you have a committee deciding when to stop a fight or subtract points for low blows or determine if a cut was opened by a punch or a headbutt everything would take more time and there would be more problems.
Because they are so empowered in the ring they are also held to a really high standard and people get on them all the time, but it's easy to say in retrospect "Ah, they stopped that fight too early" or "Why didn't he call that a low blow?", whereas in the moment the dude's got the weight of the world on his shoulders and can only do what he thinks is best.Comment

Yeah that's my main problem when promoters can use a person who can set their own rules in the ring to their advantage.Comment

Because Boxing is a 128-ish year old sport that was created before TV and radio and needs to get in line with technology.Comment
