No he didn't. Those World Championships took place in Qatar. Certain fighters were getting favored at those Championships.
Yeleussinov clearly won the second round, yet all three judges gave it to Rabii. As soon as I saw that I knew Yeleussinov was never going to win that fight unless he KO'd Rabii. AIBA clearly wanted Rabii to win. At that time Rabii was making a lot of noise because he looked sensational in the World Boxing Super Series. AIBA clearly wanted Rabii to continue his success at the World Championships.
That's no disrespect to Rabii. I think he is a really good fighter and he always looked great in the WSB; was even awarded boxer of one of the WSB seasons, which says a lot. I knew from watching in the WSB he could be a good pro, it's time to prove it now though.
I'm not even saying that it's a huge robbery. A case could be made for Rabii winning the first and even the third round.
I just don't think he won.
Even if you think he won I don't know how you could say he outboxed Yeleussinov when the first and third rounds were competitive and Yeleussinov clearly won the second. Outboxing makes it sound like Rabii completely dominated the fight.
Even his fight against Kelly is a little exaggerated. There is a highlight video someone made with all the great Rabii moments to make Kelly look bad.
I think Rabii beat Kelly rather easily and won every round against him, but the highlights definitely make it look worse.
Hopefully Rabii can win a title at 154. Then rematches with Yeleussinov and Kelly could happen in the future.Comment
