Comments Thread For: Hearn on Usyk Opponents: Miller, Whyte, Chisora, Kownacki, Ortiz

Eddie Hearn, co-promoter for WBO, WBC, WBA, IBF cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, outlined a variety of potential opponents for the boxer. Earlier this month, Usyk knocked out Tony Bellew in what is likely the unified champ's final bout at the cruiserweight limit.

Chisora makes no sense especially after he loses to Whyte. But the rest is OK.

Whyte-Chisora winner seems like a no brainer. Usyk just won the huge British fight over Bellew, one of the Uk's biggest talkers and most well known boxers, and Whyte and Chisora are two of the UK's other biggest talkers and best known fighters, already coming off one big UK grduge match war and possibly about to have a second. So with the momentum coming out of both those fights, it makes all the sense in the world to match the winners.

Miller would also be fun just because of how intriguing the size difference would be. A cruiserweight vs a 300 pound heavyweight? And an undefeated in pretty good shape 300 pound heavyweight with decent hand speed? Usyk could lose that fight due to size, so that makes it interesting.

Kownacki would be the more conservative approach...

Ortiz, that's even more intriguing than Miller because we just saw him have a lot of success vs Wilder, so much success that the allegedly corrupt official had to give Wilder an extra break at the start of the round after Ortiz hurt him in order to save Wilder's undefeated record going into the AJ-Wilder fight where the people who play ball might get rich or who knows how it works exactly. Even though Ortiz is old to be beating top heavyweights, vs a small cruiserweight without big power, he could still be a nightmare matchup. But, that's what makes it interesting. Would be a risky first fight at heavyweight, but as I said, that makes it even more interesting.

The thing about Ortiz though is, he is a cerebral boxer. Whyte and Chisora, they go to war. So seeing Usyk move up and fight a bigger guy who will actually take it to him and make the fight a war, especially with the momentum both Usyk and Whyte have in the UK, and especially if Whyte beats Chisora spectacularly, and especially also because Whyte was able to buzz AJ, I think Whyte-Usyk would be a huge first heavyweight fight for Usyk. Also risky because Whyte will try to make it a war, but that's why the fight should be an epic barnburner. Not sure the same would happen in a Usyk-Ortiz matchup.

Difficult choice's for Usyk here. He can still clearly make the 200Lb limit with ease, so why gamble his 0 at this time? If & it's a big if Ward can be tempted in the ring again then that could be his best option next. However if he doe's decide to move to H/W then he's going to have to grow into it & not try & crash into the scene like a bull at a gate!

Usyk will be new in division, maybe too difficult fights for first fight? Maybe he should start with Helenius or Kabayel?

Yeah, this would be a good option, as would Helenius. That would at least put Usyk in with someone as big as Joshua etc.

Usyk usually walks between 220-225. Why torture his body ?
