I should add that he must also retire undefeated to achieve that title as the greatest ever. Many people will probably suggest he's the best ever if he beats Margarito, Hatton, De La Hoya, and dominates at 154 for a while.

    These are HUGE 'Ifs'.

Do you have any idea how many fighters have people talking about all these 'all time greatest' 'ifs' early in their career?

It's a bit premature to be mapping this out.

no no no. If he beats cotto, hatton, de la hoya, etc, then he could and probably should be considered the best. But i do NOT want him to become the best ever, simply because i dont feel like im watching history. When i watch the greatest ever, i want to feel something. Like a rush, just watching him walking around. I want to look at him and see him as a fighter that is larger then the game itself. I see none of this in mayweather.

Do you really believe PBF will change overnight and take on a series of tough opponents? We're all still waiting for one fight against anyone in the P4P top 10, or a top guy in any division. He'll continue to be a PPV dud until he steps it up.

          simply and idea

roy jones jr was the best p4p fighter before his lossses to glen johnson and tarver. mayweather is taking the same route that jones jr took. he dodges certain fighters, talks about $$$ business, does flashy ass kicking in the ring, and soon floyd will fight the contenders he should fight when its already to late. point being i see mayweather ending his career in a ****hole. not bashing mayweather; i like the guy, but thats just what i see happening...

yea i agree. Like ive said a million times on here, if mayweather makes the gutsy call to face taylor then he would lose that zero in his record.

Does this mean that taylor is better then wright? God no. wright might be better then taylor, and vice versa. But taylors style looks like it could take on a mayweather. that would be a fight that i would watch because when im older i could say to my kids and stuff, that i watched history happen live.

I want to point out something here. Just because a great fighter is undefeated does not mean he is the best ever. There are 2 guys on this thread that seem to be taking that approach.

Rocky was undefeated, why isnt he even considered when talking about the best P4P fighters of all time? thats kinda a bad example because rocky wasnt even a boxer.

I really beleive each boxer needs a loss on their record to humble them. the set them straight and keep their minds focused on the task at hand. 75% of the game is mental. If hes only half into the game mentally, hes gonna lose.

A loss also proves you had balls. You stepped up against a fighter that u knew you could lose to, and you still fought him as best you could. But, if mayweather is in a type of fight where u can see he is truly exhausted and worn down, and he STILL wins, then he also proved himself

Actually bro, Rocky had a brutal record with a lot of losses. That's why he was an underdog in the first movie.
