I feel that Abel's training methods are outdated. Keep in mind, he's been training fighters since the 80s, so he might be the most experienced trainer in the sport right now. The problem is that the sport actually has evolved, and you can't train fighters the same way you used to. That's part of the reason I'm worried about Gvozdyk picking up Teddy as his trainer for the Stevenson bout.

All of his fighters this year have either gotten outboxed or dominated(or both). Now Ryan Martin had no business going up against Josh Taylor, that was a huge mismatch. But it's the lack of preparation that concerning. He says in the corner "Go to the body", but have his fighters been taught how to do that? Do they know how to fight inside? Can they counter?

Neither Abel, nor Teddy, nor even Freddie(for physical reasons) should be training anyone anymore.

Most of the top trainers today are younger guys, in their 30s and 40s. Who have adapted.

Saucedo's defense is very poor. He needs to incorporate head movement into his fights, he was getting hit with every jab and right hand by Hooker. He failed to adjust and capitalize after dropping him in the 2nd round. Hooker came back well and was outboxing him for the rest of the fight. Very entertaining fight, I would love to see a unification with Ramirez next.

Always nice to see a fighter go into someone's backyard and take the judges out of the equation!
          Cong**** Hooker.

Fighting a guy with a significant reach advantage is no joke and Hooker has the reach of a heavyweight at 140.

Saucedo does have bad d, I agree with you. However, against fighters with lesser reach he will be able to land a lot more.

Against guys with lesser reach he gets hit cleanly as I've seen a number of times and in his last fight was almost knocked out by a dwarf with no where near Hooker's reach. He cannot block punches and was out of breath by the 4th round. He gets eaten alive by the top 140 pounds and even contenders.
